"My mom is "Lizzy's Grandma." When I gave birth to Elizabeth, within weeks I had 2 large bills come in from the hospital. My mom urged me to call my insurance company before paying to be sure they were correct (sidenote: I cannot stress enough that when you call, be sure to get a reference # and the representative's name. This is KEY!) I was told that they should have been paid 100% and that I owed nothing. About a week later I called them to inquire about several ultrasounds I had paid out-of-pocket for and those too should have been paid 100%. Great! Not only did I not have to pay thousands in hospital bills but I was going to be refunded for ultrasounds I had previously paid for.

A month or two went by so I called my insurance company to follow up. They changed their tune saying I was now responsible for all of these bills. My mom recommended I fight for an appeal and proceeded to write letters for me and make phonecalls on my behalf. I am fortunate that my mom knows the system and exactly how to communicate to these folks to get the desired outcome. It worked. I'm please to report that my insurance company paid for my bills 100% as they said they would. Sure they try to give the run-around, make people jump through hoops, but we didn't stray from our course. Or should I say my mom didn't. This was all her.

Sure, she's my mom and Lizzy's grandma but I'm not making this up. This is just another example of my mom doing what she does best. What's doubly great about her talents in this area is that it just makes both her and her clients just feel good about the right thing being done and winning one for the little guy."
